First, for Me!

Meatball Calzone

2 (13-ounce) tubes refrigerated Italian pizza or bread dough
1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water
1 (8-ounce) bag pre-shredded mozzarella and provolone cheese (2 cups)
1 (12-ounce) package pre-cooked frozen cocktail-size Italian meatballs (or regular size, cut in half)
1 (26-ounce) jar marinara or spicy Arrabiatta sauce

Instructions 1. Preheat the oven to 400F.
Coat a 14-inch round pizza pan with no-stick spray.
2. Carefully unroll each tube of dough into a rough rectangle. Place one dough piece into the pan. Snip off the points and press extra dough into bare spots to cover the bottom of the pan. On the work surface, snip the points on the second piece of dough and press to form a rough circle.
3. Brush dough in the pan with the egg mixture. Sprinkle on half of the cheese. Top with meatballs. Drizzle on 1 cup of sauce. Top with remaining cheese. Cover with dough circle. Pinch edges to seal. Brush with the egg mixture. Pierce top several times with a small sharp knife.
4. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes or until golden and bubbling through the dough slits. Serve calzone with remaining sauce at the table. Serves 6.

And in 15 min. DH and I ate 3/4 of it with a side salad; it was finished off by G/daughter when she returned from soccer practice.

I used Barilla marinaria, but didn't care for it. What kind of marinaria do use?

I wanted to let ya'll know that I can cook. lol I always get soooo hungary after reading Zoey's blog about her Pumpkin roll and Sissy's deep dish pizza.

  1. Yummy!!
You know, Sandra, I always find the Barilla good for stand alone sauce, but when it comes to calzone, I use Paul Newman. Don't use the sock it to me sauce, it's too spicey!!!
He donates the proceeds to a cancer camp, so I feel good about that, too. I buy the salad dressing, too!!
    Warm in MS, today??!!

  2. Thanks, Sissy for the info, and it is 55 with a high of 69 degrees. L@@ks like no snow, here. lol

  3. Oh gosh, that sure looks good!! Thank you so much for the recipe...this is something my boys would love when they come home to visit:-)

  4. That looks soooo good! You are now making me hungry! I will probably have to wander off to the refrigerator to find a little snack now.
